Control Humidity

Learn how to control the humidity in your basement, kitchen, or bathroom in this Invitation Homes "Know Your Home" video.

Hi, I’m Shawna with Invitation Homes. And today we’re going to talk about how to control humidity in your basement or bathroom.

Man: If you live in an area with a humid climate, you may have noticed issues in your bathroom or basement related to excess moisture in your home. There are several hints to alleviate these issues, such as turning on the exhaust fan when taking a shower or cooking. When using the air conditioner, you should avoid opening doors and windows as this allows moist air to enter the home causing condensation on the walls and ductwork which can lead to mold growth. You can also place a dehumidifier in humid areas, such as basements, to remove excess moisture from the air.

Finally, be sure to drain water away from the foundation of the home. Water that accumulates around the foundation in crawl spaces can contribute to excess humidity in the home and basement. However, if you live in a drier climate, you may need to run a humidifier in the home to add moisture to the air.
