Manually Open Garage Door

Manually Open Garage Door

Learn how to manually open your garage door in this Invitation Homes "Know Your Home" video.

Lance: Hi, I’m Lance with Invitation Homes, and today, we’re going to talk about how to manually open your garage door when there is no power.

Other reasons for your garage door not opening could include damage to the hinges or springs. Repairing these items can be very dangerous and should only be done by a professional. Once you determine the problem is caused by there being no power to the unit, you will need to make sure that your garage door is in the down and closed position. If the door is not fully closed, make sure that there is nothing underneath it that could be damaged or injured as the door closes.

First, locate the rope that is attached to the trolley unit as shown here. Pull the rope down to disconnect the trolley from the attachment point on the track. This will allow you to manually move the door up and down the track rail. To reconnect the trolley, simply move the garage door to the down and closed position and move the lever back to the original position on the trolley. If you’re still having issues and can’t get the door to open, call the Invitation Homes maintenance number for your region or enter a maintenance request at
