Spring Maintenance

Learn how to prepare your home for spring in this Invitation Homes "Know Your Home" video.

Kurt: Hi, I’m Kurt with invitation homes, and today we’re going to talk about how to prepare your home for Spring.

Getting your home ready for Spring will ensure you’ll be ready to enjoy the warmer weather once it arrives. You can save money and protect your family, home and possessions by following a few simple steps.

Make sure down spouts drain away from the foundation and are clear and free of debris. Remove fire wood stored near the home, making sure it’s stored at least two feet from the structure. Test your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors and replace batteries if necessary. Replace the air filters in the air conditioner monthly, and test your AC to ensure that it works. Clean lint, dust and material from your closed dryer vent and space under the dryer.

Check the washing machine fill hose. Look for cracks that could become leaks. A leaky hose under pressure can cause major damage in a short period of time. Finally, to work efficiently, the compressor to your air conditioner unit needs good air flow. So be sure to prune or clear any vegetation or leaves from around your air conditioning compressor.

Additional videos about several of the tips listed in this video are covered in our Known Your Home video series on our website at KnowYourHome.IHRent.com.
