Unclog Sink Drain with a Zip It Tool

Learn how to use a zip it tool to unclog a sink drain in this Invitation Homes "Know Your Home" video.

Lance: Hi, I’m Lance with Invitation Homes, and today, we’re going to talk about how to unclog a sink drain using a Zip-it tool.

A Zip-it drain tool is a quick and easy way to clear many clogged or slow running drains. It is a thin plastic strip that has specially designed sharp teeth to grab hold of the clog and allow you to pull the clog out of your drain, and is especially effective on hair clogs. Remove the drain stopper, and being careful to avoid the sharp teeth, insert the Zip-it drain tool into the drain until the handle meets the top of the drain. Pull the Zip-it tool out slowly to avoid splashing debris out of the drain. Repeat the process until the clog is removed and the drain is clear, then replace the drain stopper.

The Zip-it tool is designed to be thrown away after each use. Do not attempt to clean the tool. The sharp teeth on the tool could cause injury. If the drain remains clogged after using the tool, call the Invitation Homes maintenance number for your region or enter a maintenance request at IHRent.com.
