5 Ways To Keep Your New Year’s Resolutions

A new year is an excellent time to jump-start your exciting new lifestyle. Whether you are committing to a consistent workout regimen or throwing yourself into a new hobby, it can be challenging to keep these new goals.

By definition, a resolution is a firm decision of what your consistent “plans” are going to be. For most people, New Year’s resolutions can add pressure because it implies the “new you” is here. It’s easy to sneak back into our old ways. But with these five steps, you can stick to your New Year’s resolutions!

To Do List1. Start small

A big mistake we often make is creating a plan with every imaginable item listed. We sometimes fall victim to including all our physical, mental, financial, economical, personal, and “you- name it- type” resolutions on the master plan. Looking at resolutions this way can be overwhelming and trap us into quitting. Take it easy, and start with one major or minor resolution at a time. If increased physical activity is your goal, pick a month to focus on exercise. Once you complete this resolution, you’ll find you’re motivated to continue with the rest of your goals.

Organization may not be for everyone, but you can’t deny its benefits. Placing yourself on an organized, well-planned schedule can help you reach your New Year’s resolutions. You have seven days. Pick a day that makes the most sense and schedule your new goal. When you have a day dedicated to your new plan, you’re less likely to forget about it. Scheduling it into your day makes it important. Here’s a sure way to keep the resolutions! Steer clear from New Year resolutions not in your budget. Financial woes come and go, so plan to have a resolution that’s not going to put you in debt. It’s completely possible! Look into minimizing expenditures when you can to keep more in your pocket. This is as affordable as it gets.

4. Tell someone

Accountability goes a long way. Sticking to the New Year’s resolution becomes doable when you’ve shared goals with friends or family. Mentioning goals to a close friend or relative reinforces you want to do this. You can get encouragement, motivation, and affirmation when you share what your new plans are for the New Year. You’ll find yourself on the road to consistency this way.

Writing Goals5. Don’t be too hard on yourself

Your New Year’s resolutions are important to you, but don’t overwork yourself trying to meet each one. It’s all about trial and error. Understand it may not be easy, but with patience and perseverance, you’re bound to get there. Keep your end goals in mind and take it one day or goal at a time.
