September 28 is National Good Neighbor Day, a time to connect with your neighbors and invest in your community. This year, due to Covid-19, connecting with your neighbors may look different, but that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate National Good Neighbor Day! We’ve gathered a few social distance-friendly activities to foster a sense of community in your neighborhood.
Start a Social Media Page
Stay connected by creating a neighborhood social media page on Facebook or Instagram. Invite your neighbors to post family updates, neighborhood happenings, and more. You can also use this page to post safety and extreme weather updates.
Drop Off Groceries
Some of your neighbors, including those who are older than 65 or immunocompromised, may not be able to go to the grocery store. Show your neighbor you care by dropping off a bag of groceries. Be sure to wear a mask and wash your hands before delivering food. Also, it may be best to choose pantry items that don’t need to be put in the refrigerator right away.
Give Masks
Masks have become a fashionable accessory this year. They also make great gifts for neighbors, especially those that are essential workers. The CDC website has tutorials and tips for making masks.
Support a Local Restaurant or Store
Locally-owned restaurants have been hit hard recently. Support a restaurant or store by making a neighborhood-wide donation. Or donate to Frontline Foods , an organization committed to helping local restaurants and frontline heroes.
Plan a Drive-By Parade
If your neighbors are celebrating a birthday, wedding, or birthday shower, plan a drive-by parade to make them feel special. Make signs to put on your car, drop off gifts, and blast their favorite tunes to make it feel like a party. This is a wonderful way to celebrate a neighbor, and there’s no mess to clean up after the parade!
