Our 2023 community fact sheets provide an overview of our presence in and impact on each market where we operate.
Invitation Homes’ operations directly benefit each area of the country where we’re active. This starts with employing a local workforce, including associates, vendors, and service providers that are integral to our business. In 2023, we employed more than 1,550 full-time associates who operate our business every day and who ensure our residents enjoy best-in-class customer service. We also depend on local businesses to help us with routine maintenance; in 2023, we utilized the skillsets of more than 2,700 trades and services vendors. In addition, through our local teams' hard work and dedication, we invested $411.1M in improving homes, which creates an enhanced living experience for our residents and improves the value of not only our homes but also those around them. In 2023, we paid $386.7 million in property taxes nationwide, which contribute to local infrastructure and keep neighborhoods vibrant.
In today’s tight housing market, we also proudly support the development of new home construction, and we’re doing our part by working with builders to provide new homes for rent, adding to the overall housing supply across the country. By supporting an individual’s choice to own or lease, we bring increased diversity to neighborhoods and empower more individuals on an alternative path to achieving their housing dreams.
In addition to our business's economic value, our associates regularly dedicate their time and energy to help improve communities through volunteer efforts. Invitation Homes provides each associate 20 hours of paid work time annually to volunteer in their communities, and we encourage them to use the time to support important causes that are close to them. In 2023, our associates completed more than 19,700 volunteer hours, and we’re incredibly proud of their work to give back across our markets.
We remained steadfast in our commitment to advancing initiatives that align with our environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards and that support our efforts to be a better corporate citizen. In 2023, more than 60,000 of our homes had active smart home devices, which help our residents save on energy use and reduce their environmental footprint. We also had more than 65,500 air filter subscribers, a service that provides better air quality for our residents and the environment.
We are extremely proud to report a continued A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau in 2023. We know this would not be possible without our incredible associates, vendors, and partners, who work each day to ensure our residents have a safe and comfortable experience in our homes. We will continue our work to further improve the single-family rental industry and leasing experience and to continue to provide strong support in and for our resident communities.
