What is your role at Invitation Homes?

I am the Lead Superintendent, so I take care of training new and existing superintendents. I assist my fellow associates when they need help or have a question about something with a house.

What does a normal day look like for you?

A normal day for me would be writing a turn budget, performing a pre-move out visit for a home, and conducting a resident orientation to best assist our new residents.

What does Genuine Care mean to you?

Genuine care is making sure we communicate information properly with our residents, letting them know that we care, and helping to make their house feels like a home.

What has your journey been like at Invitation Homes?

My journey has been great, and I have been with Invitation Homes for almost eight years. I started as a Maintenance Technician, and then moved into the Dispatch Manager position and now into my current position as a Superintendent. I have seen and been through a lot of changes with the company.

What is your rank in the military? In which branch of the military did you serve?

I served as a Petty Officer First Class (E6) for the United States Navy.

How has Invitation Homes helped you to assimilate back into the workforce?

I had been out of the Navy for a long time when I started my journey at Invitation Homes. Working here has taught me to adapt to change in the same way as I did while in the Navy.

What would you say to fellow Invitation Homes associates that have served our country to inspire and motivate them to share their Veteran story as well?

First and foremost, thank you for your service. I know it takes a certain type of person to serve their country. During that time, we all made many memories that we should share with others and not keep to ourselves. It’s an honor to serve and it should be shared.

What advice would you give to potential Veteran job seekers as to why they should join Invitation Homes?

At Invitation Homes, we are a family just like the military. We take care of each other. There is plenty of room for advancement within the company.

What are some of the most important skills to have in your position?

Communication, dedication, and the ability to accept change and offer great customer service. Also, the ability to work alone as well as with others.

What is your favorite part about working for Invitation Homes?

The company treats you like family. The opportunities for advancement and transferring within the company makes Invitation Homes a great place to work.

How has Invitation Homes created a greater sense of belonging for you?

I am not treated as just an employee. I am often asked for my advice or opinion on different things, and that gives me a sense of belonging here.

Thank you, Raul, for taking the time to share your story with us. We are honored to have veterans like you as a part of the Invitation Homes family!
