We had the pleasure of getting to know Rebecca, an Invitation Homes associate of five years and co-leader of our GenNext ERG. Rebecca is a Property Tax Senior Manager at our Corporate Headquarters in Dallas, Texas. From being part of major milestones such as our IPO and merger to being at the forefront of our efforts toward Diversity and Inclusion, Rebecca has served an integral role in many achievements at Invitation Homes.
We got the opportunity to learn more about Rebecca, what she enjoys most about her job, and how Invitation Homes has created a greater sense of belonging for her. Keep reading below to see what Rebecca had to share.
What is your role at Invitation Homes?
I manage all aspects of property tax at Invitation Homes. My responsibilities include budgeting, cash forecasting, tax payments, overseeing third-party consultants, and managing the appeal process.
What does your day-to-day look like?
I start my day with a cup of coffee while I review any unread emails and look over my calendar. No day is the same and some days turn out to be completely different than my expectation but that is what I love about working at Invitation Homes. My day could consist of reviewing payment files, analyzing values for appeal opportunities, preparing/reviewing accruals, or taking the time to get to know a fellow associate. I appreciate that we are trusted to get our job done and that it is in our culture to cultivate relationships.
What does Genuine Care mean to you?
Genuine care is a part of who we are, and it is one of my favorite values at Invitation Homes. I love that the company and the associates truly care about each other not only on an organizational level but a personal level. It is woven in our fabric and is not just a saying but lived out daily.
What has your journey at Invitation Homes looked like?
I started my journey in 2016 and, in that time, I have gained knowledge, experience, and lifelong friendships. I have seen this company grow and been a part of some major milestones like our IPO and merger. It has been incredible to see us move from a start-up mentality to the premier company in our space. I take pride in our accomplishments, and it excites me to see where we are headed.
What’s the most satisfying part of your job? Why do you enjoy what you do?
I enjoy Property Tax. More importantly, I enjoy where and who I work for, I feel that I am trusted to get the job done and that I am respected which makes my work satisfying.
What are some of the most important skills to have in your position?
I believe three invaluable skills to have in any position are being an effective communicator, being able to build relationships with those around you, and being trustworthy/dependable.
What is the best part about working at Invitation Homes?
The people! I am impressed with the high level of intelligence, integrity, and care in our associates. It is so nice to work with people you genuinely care about.
How has Invitation Homes created a greater sense of belonging for you?
I appreciate our focus on Diversity and Inclusion. Being involved with our Employee Resources Groups, specifically Together with Women (TWW) and GenNext, has allowed me to step outside of my day-to-day role and has increased my sense of belonging within Invitation Homes.
How have you seen the company evolve during your time at Invitation Homes?
In my five years here, I have seen every part of Invitation Homes evolve and continue to get better. I value that we strive for excellence at all levels.
