Invitation Homes recently celebrated its ninth anniversary. And we thought it would be meaningful to recognize one of our exemplary and long-term associates, whose tenure with Invitation Homes has surpassed nine years – and counting!

Robert E. is a Senior Treasury Analyst who has seen a lot of change during his 10 years at Invitation Homes. An integral part of the financial team, Robert’s responsibilities include managing and analyzing our banking activities.

We had the opportunity to learn about Robert’s experience at Invitation Homes, what he loves most about his job, and how his work ethic exemplifies our value of Genuine Care. Keep reading to see what Robert had to share.

Genuine Care follows the Golden Rule: do unto others as you would have them do unto you. This is a philosophy I truly believe in. It means showing empathy and letting people know that you hear their concerns and that their point of view matters.

What is your role at Invitation Homes?

I am a Senior Treasury Analyst, so I analyze financial requests, make sure the bank accounts are properly maintained, ensure proper reporting, monitor for fraud, send out electronic payments and investigate missing payments. I also assist internal accounting and handle inquiries from the field offices.  Basically – I help with all our banking activities.

What does a typical day-to-day look like for you?

The first half of each day, I focus on electronic payment activity, which includes sending out wires for acquisitions, among other things. The second half of the day involves a lot of research, including investigating stop payments, check copies, and other types of requests.

What does Genuine Care mean to you?

For me, Genuine Care follows the Golden Rule: do unto others as you would have them do unto you. This is a philosophy I truly believe in. It means showing empathy and letting people know that you hear their concerns and that their point of view matters. I believe this philosophy benefits us as a company and as individuals as we build professional relationships.

What has your journey been like at Invitation Homes?

My journey began at Riverstone Residential, where I served on the Single-Family Treasury team working with Invitation Homes’ assets. Fortunately, after Invitation Homes brought everything in-house, they offered me a position as a treasury analyst. There have been a few bumps in the road, but I believe we’re a stronger organization for it. Over the past 10 years, I’ve seen how far we’ve come and how well we’ve adapted – especially during the last year. It truly makes me proud of our organization.

What’s the most satisfying part of your job? Why do you enjoy what you do?

Contributing to the ongoing success of our company is very satisfying. My job is like putting together a puzzle. The challenge? It’s figuring out how to do things efficiently, in an order that makes sense, and that gets the job done accurately. The enjoyment I get from these challenges while also trying to streamline processes is just a perk!

What are some of the essential skills required for your position?

First is attention to detail and the ability to prioritize. Second is the ability to multi-task while keeping the day’s overall objectives in mind.  Although, providing and promoting a “can do” attitude is always paramount!

What is the best part about working at Invitation Homes?

For me, it’s the relationships I’ve built over the years. Whether it’s our employees, residents, or vendors, I have met many terrific people!

How has Invitation Homes created a greater sense of belonging for you?

Invitation Homes has created an environment of openness, flexibility, and acceptance, which has allowed me to feel comfortable sharing my ideas and issues. Oh, and the Dr Pepper in the fountain drinks is a plus!

How have you seen the company evolve during your time at Invitation Homes?

When we started out, there was a big learning curve and a few growing pains. But through teamwork and communication, I feel we’ve grown by leaps and bounds! We’ve established procedures and processes that are easy to follow and understand, which, along with creating a flexible and personal working environment, shows just how quickly we can adapt.

Thank you, Robert, for taking the time to share your story with us.
