If I rent a solar-powered home, how would it work?
Solar panels installed on the rooftop of your home absorb sunlight and convert it into electricity through. The panels contain solar cells that generate direct current electricity when exposed to sunlight. An inverter converts this electricity to make it usable inside your home.
How does having solar energy in my Invitation Homes house benefit me?
Solar energy is a clean, renewable and sustainable choice for renters. Because Invitation Homes installed your system, you can use solar power to reduce your carbon footprint without paying expensive upfront costs. Additionally, solar energy can help stabilize your electricity costs over time, making your energy bill more predictable and potentially lower.
How does solar reduce electric bills when the sun isn’t shining?
During sunny days, your solar panels generate electricity from sunlight, which directly powers your home's electrical appliances and systems. Any excess electricity generated beyond your immediate needs will be stored in an in-house battery that you can use during peak energy usage hours. You can also send surplus energy back to the traditional electric grid. But during sunny periods, you won’t need to rely on the grid, which could translate into savings on your electric bill.
How is setting up a solar-power account with my utility provider different than a regular electric account?
You don’t have to worry about setting up your account. Our Utility Management partner, Conservice, will set up the account and manage it for you. You will get a monthly statement from Conservice, and you’ll pay your electric bill through the Invitation Homes Resident Portal. The solar panel also comes with a monthly $125 solar fee. You’ll pay the fee each month through the portal.
Is maintenance required for the solar system, and who is responsible?
Yes, some maintenance is required for a solar system, but it’s all handled by Invitation Homes. We even clean the solar panels. Routine maintenance ensures optimal performance of the solar system. Please report any issues promptly; our friendly pros will handle the repairs.
How were my potential bill savings determined?
We determined your potential electric bill savings by matching the average annual home electricity consumption for the Inland Empire to the available Southern California Edison (SCE) utility electric rate. Costs were modeled based on the time-of-use rate, and savings were determined by calculating the difference between pre-solar and post-solar electricity consumption. Savings aren’t guaranteed and will vary based on a resident’s consumption and the weather.
What is the home battery, and how does it work with my solar system?
Your home comes equipped with a Tesla Powerwall 3 — a rechargeable battery that stores excess solar energy generated during the day. When the sun goes down or your solar panels aren’t producing enough power, the Powerwall seamlessly draws on that stored energy to keep your home running on clean power.
How much energy can the battery store, and how long can it power my home?
The Tesla Powerwall 3 stores up to 13.5 kWh of energy — enough to power the essential needs of most homes for several hours. How long it lasts depends on how much energy your household uses. You can check the battery’s charge level and usage in real time through the Tesla app.
How does the home battery help lower my energy bills?
Your home battery stores the excess solar energy your panels produce during the day, so you can use it during peak hours when grid electricity rates are highest. Instead of drawing from the utility grid at peak pricing, you draw from your battery — and that can add up to real savings on your monthly energy bill.
Who maintains the home battery?
Invitation Homes is responsible for maintaining the Tesla Powerwall 3. The battery is designed to be low-maintenance, so you shouldn’t expect any issues. That said, if you notice anything out of the ordinary, please promptly report it and our friendly pros will handle the repairs.
