The coronavirus has brought many changes to our daily lives, including summer schedules and family activities. If you’re eager to get outside this season, you can still do so safely. We’ve rounded up a few outdoor activities to enjoy with your family.

Campout in the Backyard

If you’re searching for a getaway, look no further than your backyard. You can enjoy an evening outside or pitch a tent and spend the night in the great outdoors. If you have little ones, this is an easy way to introduce them to camping. Set up folding chairs in the backyard and tell ghost stories or share memories from previous camping trips. Enjoy the quintessential camp treat – s’mores – with this microwave-friendly recipe . If your family is ready for an overnight campout, make sure you have a large tent, sleeping bags, and pillows. But don’t worry – if you forget anything, you can sneak in your house to get it.

Hop in the (Inflatable) Pool

There’s nothing better than spending a hot summer day in a pool. While you may not be able to go to your local pool, you can use an inflatable pool in your backyard. This is a great way to teach your little ones how to swim. Inflatable pools come in a range of sizes – see some options at The Home Depot.

Make an Outdoor Gym

Regular exercise will help you stay healthy and cope with stress. It’s also a fun family activity you can do in your backyard. You don’t need much equipment to set up a workout area; grab a yoga mat and a chair.

Chair Exercises

You can do several stretches – for your neck, shoulders, and hips – while sitting on a chair. See chair exercises to try here .

Mat Exercises

Round up the kids and do simple yoga poses on a mat. See some beginner yoga poses here . You can also try bodyweight exercises on your mat. Try the exercises shown here .

Host a Private Party

You don’t need an extensive invite list to have a backyard barbecue. This all-American tradition can be a family affair. Throw some hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill while you sip iced tea. You can add outdoor string lights and play music to make it feel like a party. If you want to spruce up your patio décor space to make it party-ready visit our blog .

Take a Walk with Your Camera

Lace up your tennis shoes and grab your camera or phone. There are plenty of beautiful things to photograph while walking around your neighborhood. Show your kids the plants in your area and ask them to take photos. If you don’t know the name of a plant, take a photo and research when you get home. Or try one of these apps . This activity is fun, creative, and educational! Be sure to wear sunscreen and stay hydrated when you’re outside. You may have to plan your activities in the early morning or late evening to avoid the heat. Take all necessary safety precautions such as wearing a mask and staying at least six feet apart from other people. We’d love to see your outdoor activities – post photos and tag Invitation Homes on social media!
