How we activate our values in our communities

We believe our Genuine CARE ™ values reach beyond our office walls, inspiring us to be strong, supportive neighbors in every community we call home. That commitment fuels our desire to build meaningful partnerships with local organizations and to make a real difference where our associates live and work.

Our company-wide mantra of “go do good” comes to life through locally led action. We empower our associates to seek opportunities in their own communities where they can help those in need. We provide 20 hours of annual paid volunteer time to each of our associates and contribute funds to support local nonprofits in their communities.

Our impact in local communities

We’re a long-term investor in each of the markets where we operate. We hire locally, employing thousands of hard-working full-time associates and contracting with thousands of professional service vendors nationwide. As responsible community members, we pay HOA fees where applicable and abide by HOA rules and regulations in the communities where we operate. We take good care of our homes and routinely invest in upgrades, increasing the value of nearby houses and neighborhoods.

We also match our associates' charitable contributions to nonprofit organizations they find personally meaningful. Through this program, we can make an impact on smaller, local, community-based organizations that align with our associates’ values.

Skilled trades: Invitation to SkillUp

Invitation to SkillUp encourages students to pursue high-demand and well-paid jobs in the skilled trades and provides job-readiness training to help close the skills gap and broaden access to career opportunities in fields that directly impact our business.

Our vision is to create a workforce engine that inspires young people to pursue skilled trades, equips them with training and opportunity, and connects them to meaningful careers — including within our own company.

This effort is focused in four areas:

  1. Pipeline Activation – Inspire middle and high school students (and parents) to view skilled trades as modern, high‑value careers.

  2. Training & Readiness – Strengthen pathways from interest to enrollment through scholarships, school partnerships, and pre-apprenticeship experiences.

  3. Career Launch & Mobility – Build a robust job‑placement ecosystem, including an in-house apprenticeship program and a partner‑powered job board.

  4. Thought Leadership – Shape the national conversation through data, thought leadership, and strategic partnerships – growing this platform as the program matures.

The Hawes Trail Alliance (HTA)

In 2023, we completed a planned three-year partnership with the Hawes Trail Alliance (HTA) system in Arizona as part of our Green Spaces program. Our support helped ensure Arizona’s trail system can be enjoyed by bikers, hikers, and other outdoor enthusiasts with new trails, expanded parking, and improved trail signage.

Each year, our associates gather school supplies and pack backpacks for students starting the school year, delivering thousands of backpacks to schools in their communities for local children.
